Air conditioning compared with your main alternatives
- A working gas boiler
- It makes heat and sends it through radiators. Our air conditioning moves warmth straight into the rooms you choose and also cools them. The illustrative running cost can sit near gas, so compare the assumptions rather than expecting a dramatic saving. See the worked figures.
- An air-to-water heat pump
- It feeds radiators or underfloor pipes and usually needs a hot-water cylinder. Our air conditioning uses indoor units instead, so it is a different answer for homes that want room-by-room heating and cooling.
- A portable air conditioner
- It cools one room through a hose in an open window. Our fixed air conditioning leaves the window shut, drains condensate outside and can warm the room in winter.
Why it can use less electricity to heat a room
as much heat from each unit of electricity
In heating mode, our air conditioning moves heat in from outside instead of generating it like a plug-in electric heater. For every unit of electricity it uses, it can move around three to three and a half units of heat into the room.
For the same warmth, that can mean using around a third of the electricity of a direct electric heater. The exact running cost still depends on the room, the weather and how you use it. We measure the room before recommending a system.

Many house installations can proceed under Permitted Development, subject to its conditions. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas need further checks.
